Pieve di Cadore is the birthplace of Tiziano Vecellio (Titian — Venetian painter). The town lies in the hills with mountain peaks enveloping/surrounding it — it’s really quite spectacular. The area is known for trekking, art and beauty. Pieve has much to offer a visitor. Titian’s Square is the center of town. Here you will find a statue of Titian, some commemorative military plaques and the very beautiful (yet austere) Palazzo di Cadore (15^th century), a former government building which today houses a museum and cultural offices. The museum has artifacts and paintings from artists of the area. You have to visit the Eyeglass Museum which is the only one of its kind (in Tai). It’s a terrific museum and some of the glasses are like jewels and jewelry. The museum has many antique and ancient items — very very cool. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Nascente is a lovely church with an altarpiece of the Madonna surrounded by Saints (Titian). Titian’s House is now a museum and is worth a visit….the architecture is typical of the area.
