Trentino
Alto Adige is in northwest Italy. This region
is surrounded by the Lombardia and Veneto
regions and by Austria and Switzerland.
This is a wild and mountainous region
..startlingly beautiful
majestic. The main cities in the region are Trento, Merano,
Bressanone and Bolzano. There is a large Tyrolean influence here (in
cuisine, language, clothing and architecture). Trentino Alto Adige
has grand valleys, sparkling rivers and lakes, strong traditions,
the majestic Dolomite Mountains, lush vineyards, silvery olive orchards,
curative spas, grand castles and pristine parks
..you can
ski, trek, climb, tour, dine, relax
..you can simply enjoy
this region and all that it has to offer
.
The cuisine and wine of Trentino Alto Adige is very good and has the
definite influence of Tyrol. There are interesting local dishes and
specialties like speck, canederli (a noodle/gnocchi soup), strudel,
pastry, pretzels, smoked meats, mortadella and weiner schnitzel. Emphasis
is on fruits, grains and game. There are some great cheeses like Grana
Padana, Asiago and Provolone
..and great wines like Mitterberg
tra Cauria, Alto Adige, Teroldego Rotaliano and Caldaro. Its
an easy hop to Austria or Switzerland from here
..this is one
terrific region not one that is as known by Americans as it
should be
Enjoy!
