Trentino Alto Adige:
Caldaro

Caldaro lies on the South Tyrolean wine road (the Strada del Vino). The Lake Caldaro wine is very good. The town is great for relaxing or participating in athletic pursuits from biking and hiking to summer pursuits on the lake like swimming, sunning, boating and fishing. The town is charming and well preserved. Most of the houses and buildings date back to the 17th century. The 18th century Chiesa di Maria Himmelfahrt is very Baroque and lovely. Do go in to the Museo del Vino (wine museum) as it specifically highlights wines from the area….everything you wanted to know and more — it’s really quite good. You should try to take the funiculare up to Passo Mendola (great views). You can also go further up to Penegal — this is a hike (a hike….), however the rewarding views are worth the trip (just be prepared). Wednesday is Market in Caldaro.
