Cefalu is a fishing village sitting under a big craggy rock (at the seaside). The rock in question was at one time the Temple of Diana. The 12th century duomo is magnificent (Norman). It is located just off the town’s main street (Via Ruggero) on the Piazza del Duomo. The twin towers on the façade and the mosaics inside (one of Christ and one of the Virgin with Four Angels) make it a true treasure of Italy. The Museo Mandralisca has artifacts and a fine painting gallery (Antonello da Messina’s Portrait of Man and Catena’s Sacra Familia). Climb the hill to get to La Rocca/Tempio di Diana. Market day is Saturday in Cefalu.
