If you’re searching for ancient and interesting excavations — head to Barumini. Su Nuraxi is the earliest settlement in all of Sardegna/Sardinia. It is a nuraghic fortress (seems like a maze). It was built on a hill, had a central fortress with interconnecting galleries, walls and turrets — totally fortified. The majority of the rooms were circular, or if they were multi-room dwellings the shapes were trapezoid or square. Today you can walk (seems like a hike) around this very important sight.
