Amandola
lies high in the hills at the edge of the Parco Nazionale
dei Monti Sibillini. The town was founded in the 13th
century and is truly worth visiting. Amandola is a beautiful
medieval town that centers around the Piazza del Risorgimento.
In this square youll see the town hall (Palazzo
Municipale), which houses a local history museum called
Il Museo della Civilta Contadina. The 14th
century church SantAgostino is also in this
square. The entryway of SantAgostino is noted for
its combination of Gothic and Venetian style. The
cloister here is quite interesting as is the campanile
(14th century bell tower). As you sit in the
main square, dont forget to check out the clock
tower over the Porta San Giacomo (Baroque).
The San Francesco Church (14th
century) houses a museum of Rustic Civilization. Theres
a Roman-Gothic bridge over the Tenna River too.
Theres only one grand tower left of the 14th
century fortress that protected the town, but you
should make your way up there for views and to get a look
over the town.
