Liguria:
Portofino

In
Roman times, Portofino was called Portus
Delphini and the people were called Dolphins…..I
come to Portofino for many reasons, but
one is to sit at a café or restaurant at the harbor
and watch the world go by (sipping coffee, campari or
wine). I marvel at the colorful houses and buildings that
surround the small piazza, watch the incoming yachts and
look up in the hills to see the Chiesa di San
Giorgio (16th century). To visit this fine church,
follow the steps from the corner of the piazza. Once up
at the church you get a views of the sea and the bay (take
photos). Through the courtyard of the church you can visit
the Castle. Further on you can hike to
the lighthouse (faro) or the Punto del Capo
for more magnificent views. Relax, unwind…..enjoy
FYI: no cars are allowed in the village, so drive in and
park in the local garage. Boat trips can be arranged year
round.
